Student Bill of Rights

All students have the right to:

1. Be treated with respect and dignity, regardless of gender, gender identity, race, age, income level, physical abilities, cognitive abilities, or sexual, medical, and mental health history.
2. Have disclosures of domestic violence, dating violence, stalking, and sexual assault or harassment treated seriously.
3. Have timely access to emergency and crisis counseling services.
4. Be informed of legal rights and available resources.
5. Treat Complainants and Respondents equitably.
6. Receive supportive measures for the Complainant and Respondent.
7. Be informed of appropriate follow-up treatment, medical testing, and counseling.
8. Be free from any suggestion that the victim/survivor is at fault when these crimes and violations are committed or should have acted in a different manner to avoid such a crime.
9. Describe the incident to as few individuals as practicable and not to be required to unnecessarily repeat a description of the incident.
10. Have the university conduct a prompt and thorough investigation of the allegation, preserving the privacy of the survivor to the extent possible within the requirements of Title IX.
11. Be notified of options for and assistance with changing academic and/or living situations if so requested and if such changes are reasonably available.
12. Participate in a process that is fair, impartial, and provides adequate notice and a meaningful opportunity to be heard.
13. Presume the Respondent is not responsible for the alleged conduct until a determination regarding responsibility is made at the conclusion of the complaint resolution process.
14. Be accompanied by an advisor of choice who may assist and advise a reporting individual, accused, or Respondent throughout the judicial or conduct process.
15. Have a support person present during campus disciplinary proceedings.
16. Be informed of the outcome of any disciplinary proceedings.
17. Make a report to local law enforcement and/or state police.
